Guaranteed Aviation

With nearly a third of its commissioned officers wearing gold wings, it is no wonder the Marine Corps is always looking for qualified officers to fly some of the world?s most sophisticated aircraft. To this end, the Marine Corps will guarantee qualified Officer Candidates a spot in flight school even before they attend Officer Candidates School. There are two options available for those that yearn not only to be an elite fighter, but to fly one as well.

Naval Aviation contracts are for those individuals who meet all the necessary mental and physical qualifications, including no worse than 20/40 uncorrected vision (correctable to 20/20). Qualified applicants will submit their package to a review board and, if selected, attend Officer Candidates school with the guaranteed MOS 7599, Student Naval Aviator. After successfully completing OCS and The Basic School, SNAs will proceed to Naval Air Station Pensacola where they will begin their flight training. Upon successfully earning their gold wings, Aviators will have a service obligation of six years for those who select rotary aircraft and eight years for those who select fixed wing aircraft.

Naval Flight Officer contracts follow almost the same path as those of Naval Aviators, but they can be earned by those individuals who may not meet all the mental and physical qualifications to be a pilot - usually people with worse than 20/40 uncorrected vision. Officers with NFO contracts attend OCS with the guaranteed MOS 7578, Student Naval Flight Officer. After OCS and TBS, Student NFOs, like their Aviator counterparts, attend flight school in Pensacola, Florida. Here they learn to master such skills as navigation, radar operation, on-board computer control, electronic warfare measures, and weapons system control. NFOs have a service obligation of six years from the day they earn their wings.
