Platoon Leaders Class

The PLC program is an option for freshmen and sophomores in college who, if qualified, will attend two six week summer training sessions at OCS.  The first six weeks, or the junior's course, educates and motivates officer candidates.  Candidates attend the junior?s course after either their freshmen or sophomore year in school.  The senior?s course is attended after the junior year of college and is intended to screen and evaluate officer candidates.

While at training, candidates are paid as an E-5 on the military basic pay chart. Their time in service also starts the day they report to Officer Candidates School. Candidates recieve weekend liberty starting on the third weekend of training and will be authorized to leave base.  Additionally, once the candidates successfully complete their first six weeks of summer training they are eligible to apply for financial assistance.  The two options available are the Financial Assistance Program and the Tuition Assistance Program.

The PLC program is not ROTC. It is designed to allow maximum time during the school year for the candidates to focus on their academic degree.  At no time during the year are the candidates required to wear uniforms or attend mandatory drills.  There is no obligation while the candidates are in school, and they can leave the program at any time.

Candidates who successfully complete both six week training sessions have the choice to be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps (after they earn their degree). The new Lieutenants then proceed to The Basic School for follow-on training.
