The FAP is a stipend that is intended to be used for any expenses candidates incur during the academic year. If candidates choose to accept the FAP, they are obligated to sign a one time contract extension of six months on active duty. The extended contract is only for six months regardless of how many years of financial assistance the candidate receive. The current rate is $3600 an academic year, paid in two sums of $1800 and is directly deposited into the candidate?s checking account in October and February. The FAP can be collected for a maximum of three academic years. The TAP is financial aid that is to be used for tuition, books and laboratory fees only. Officer candidates can receive up to $7000 a year for three years and will incur a 60 month contract extension. In the event that a candidate does not accept their commission they will have to repay all aid that was given to them.
