Physical Fitness Requirements

The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test consists of three events. For males this includes pull-ups, crunches and a 3-miles run while females are scored on the flexed arm hang, crunches and a 3 mile run. All Marine Officers are required to have a first class PFT score of 225 points or better.

Pull-ups are scored 5 points each with 10 pull-ups for a score of 50 points being the minimum and 20 pull-ups being the max for a score of 100 points. The flexed arm hang is scored with 1 point a second for the first 40 seconds and 2 points a second from 41 to 70 seconds. 70 seconds is the maximum for a score of 100.

Crunches are performed for two minutes with 1 point for each crunch. The maximum is 100 crunches for 100 points and the minimum is 80 for 80 points.

For males the three mile run maximum is 18:00 or below for a score of 100 and a minimum of 24:00 for a score of 64 points. For females the three mile run maximum is 21:00 or below for a score of 100 and a minimum of 27:00 for a score of 64 points. One point is deducted for each 10 seconds over the maximum (-6 points per minute).

If you only score the minimum on each event you will not pass with a score of 225 or better; both the minimums and a 225 need to be achieved.
